VALOR participates at the 11th International AgroEnoTourism Congress on the Canary Islands
From 19 to 22 April, VALOR partners took part in the 11th International AgroEnoTourism Congress of the Canary Islands, held in Valverde, the capital of El Hierro, under the theme "Boosting Rural Development through Wine Tourism." The congress is jointly organised by the Cátedra de Agroturismo y Enoturismo de Canarias of the Instituto Canario de Calidad Agroalimentaria (ICCA) and the University of La Laguna (ULL), and is a known event of international relevance within the sector.
VALOR partner Rebecca Kropp gave a presentation on the importance of pollinator diversity for crop production and the role of ecological agriculture in supporting that diversity. During the talk, she presented early results from VALOR's sampling campaign carried out in avocado orchards during February and March of this year. The talk highlighted the symbiotic relationship between ecological farming practices and biodiversity, showing how healthy pollinator populations and sustainable agriculture reinforce one another.
The research presented was carried out in collaboration with farmers, who work for the COPLACA cooperative and have supported the project by allowing sampling in their avocado orchards.
