VALOR explores the cultural value of pollinators at ESA 2026
Researchers from Jagiellonian University introduced VALOR to an international sociological audience at the European Sociological Association (ESA) Conference 2026, held in Warsaw, Poland, from 25 to 28 August. Their presentation reached researchers in the Society and Environment research network in particular.
The presentation looked at how the cultural and non-monetary values of pollinators to society can be understood through the Nature’s Contributions to People (NCP) framework. It drew on preliminary coding results from scientific literature and interviews.
The discussion was an important step in scoping and refining the methodology for VALOR’s ongoing research. It also helped position the project within broader sociological debates on human–nature and multispecies relations.
