On 20 May 2025, VALOR project coordinator Dr Tom Breeze, Senior Research Fellow in Sustainable Land Management at the University of Reading, gave an interview to the university blog for World Bee Day in 2025.
Titled “Bee declines affect more than just farmers – the entire food industry needs to step up”, the blog post highlights the significant role of pollinators not only for crop production but for a range of related industries. Moreover, it explains how their decline affects society and encourages collaboration among farmers, researchers, businesses, and policymakers to preserve these species.
Being aware of how important pollinators are not only for the economy but for society, it is our responsibility to gain more knowledge about these species, to safeguard them and to build resilience to their possible decline. This idea directly corresponds with VALOR’s aims.
The University of Reading, the coordinating university, participates in all Work Packages and arranges smooth knowledge exchange within the project and beyond with other Horizon Europe initiatives.
